THE IMPORTANCE OF COLOUR FOR YOUR BRAND

Pinx News   •  February 2024

Did you know that prominent global brands all use the elements of a colour wheel to communicate with their customers? Think Cadburys, Fanta, and Spotify – what colours come to mind? We have put together a helpful guide on everything colour psychology, colour theory, their relation and what colours could represent your brand.

What is colour psychology?

Colour psychology is the connection between colour and human emotion. Colours evoke weird and wonderful psychological responses to humankind. These responses change from person to person and trigger some sort of emotions in all of us.

Think of the colour red, and what springs to mind? The colour of love, passion, and anger? These thoughts are vital when generating colour schemes for different businesses; colours are often chosen based on how companies want people to feel about their brand.

Colours and their associations

Warm

– Red- Passion, love, anger

– Orange- Energy, happiness

– Yellow- Happiness, hope

– Purple- Creative, wealth

Neutral

– White- Clean, pure

Warm colours often evoke feelings of passion, energy, and happiness, whereas cool colours tend to make people feel calm and at one with nature.

The colour wheel

The colour wheel categorised colours into three separate groups in 1666 (primary, secondary and tertiary). The wheel visually demonstrates the relationship between these three groups.

The importance of branding

Branding colours are not just for your website. They are demonstrated in the form of shop fronts, advertisements and in-store design. The purpose of colours and logos is to make your brand memorable. Google colours would be a prime example; if you used their colours on a different word, you would instantly recognise the pattern.

That’s the power of branding and colour!
